David Veale

David was a child of the London suburbs and became familiar with Kent as a result of frequent family trips all over the county. He spent time in the north east and lived for five years in Cardiff before spending most of his career working and living in north and central London. After graduating from Durham University, David began his career as a biology teacher for six years before switching to HR, spending 15 years in food manufacturing and 13 years in London local government.

On retiring, it was always a plan to move to the countryside and it took a year and many trips to Kent and East Sussex to settle on Hawkhurst as a great place to live. “The village combines a strong sense of community with amenity whilst having stunning countryside only minutes walk from the front door. I wanted to contribute to village community life and becoming a Trustee of HCT 2018 was one way of doing something that all Trustees believe will have a positive outcome for the residents of Hawkhurst.”

David enjoys travelling and walking being a frequent visitor to the Lake District. He loves music too, belonging to a choir based in Sevenoaks. David’s favourite place in Hawkhurst gives views across the sweeping hills of the Weald and part of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Looking at this view every day with its mature trees, shifting colours and light during the seasons really lifts his spirits.
